Registered Nurse - General Surgery

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital, a full-service 94-private bed facility, is strategically located in the heart of downtown New Braunfels. We utilize innovative equipment and cutting-edge procedures, including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, a renovated birthing center with 24/7 neonatal coverage, emergency care, wound care/hyperbaric services, 3D mammography, and comprehensive heart care extending from diagnostics to open-heart surgery.

Summary

The accomplished Registered Nurse in this role operates both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will provide both routine and complex nursing care while demonstrating the capability to adapt to various clinical situations. Your skills will help manage contingencies within the clinical setting, ensuring that the best possible care is delivered. You will have the authority to make appropriate assignments and delegate responsibilities to other care providers to efficiently manage patient care.

Responsibilities

• Exceed expectations as outlined in the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Deliver nursing care based on the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, employing the nursing process which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
• Address the complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and their families consistent with your level of practice.
• Administer medications and treatments safely as per protocol; monitor patients for potential side effects and the overall effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
• Document patient history, symptoms, administered medications, and care provided meticulously.
• Assess educational needs and provide tailored guidance to patients, family members, and caregivers, recognizing issues and utilizing available resources.

Job Requirements

• Education/Skills: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in a related nursing specialty is preferred.
• Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: BLS certification is required and an active RN License in the state of employment or a compact state.
