SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The City of San Marcos welcomes applications for a part time Recreation Leader looking to join the vibrant and active San Marcos Parks and Recreation team. At the moment, we need to fill a few spots to fill in the Raggedy Ann and Andy Preschool Program!

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader assists in the implementation of a recreational youth program in a City facility, specifically facilitating preschool classrooms; organizes and implements recreational and educational activities while providing supervision of preschool-aged, and occasionally elementary and/or middle school youth; attends staff meetings and special trainings; works various special events as directed; and performs other related work as required.

Hours Required

Monday through Friday

AM shift - 8:30am – 12:30pm

  • Applicant must be available to work the same shift 5 days a week. Maximum 20 hours per week.

All part-time employees are limited to no more than 999 hours per fiscal year.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Responsible for supervision of program participants and oversees daily activities; assists with record keeping; assists with set-up of equipment and supplies required for activities; enforces safety regulations and submits accident/incident reports, as required; adheres to established schedule and work assignments; interacts with parents and visitors; and assists with cleaning and maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and a high school graduate/GED; some experience working with children is required and must be able to perform the physical elements of the job, as required.

License or Certificate

Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license, Class C, with satisfactory driving record.
