About the Department

The Community Enhancement Technician supports the City’s efforts to improve community appearance and well-being through graffiti removal, litter and illegal dumping cleanup, beautification projects, and assistance with Resource Recovery programs. This position also provides horticultural support for public garden beds and participates in community improvement initiatives.

Position Duties

The following list highlights the main responsibilities of this position. While it covers the core tasks, it may not include every duty that could be assigned. Employees may be asked to take on other responsibilities as needed to support the team and department.

  • Remove graffiti and stickers from public property within established timeframes; maintain inventory of graffiti removal tools and supplies.
  • Respond to requests for graffiti removal on private property as directed; document and report all graffiti removal activities.
  • Assist with planning and execution of beautification programs, projects, and community events.
  • Support Resource Recovery programs and events, including handling household hazardous waste and contamination checks for residential waste carts.
  • Address illegal dumping and abandoned encampments; ensure proper disposal of materials.
  • Operate light and medium maintenance equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, power washers, and other power tools.
  • Maintain public garden beds by weeding, pruning, planting, and applying mulch and compost.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in landscaping, horticulture, or community beautification projects.
  • Familiarity with graffiti removal techniques and safe handling of chemicals.

Other Qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. Frequent activities include standing, walking, vision, hearing, and talking. Occasional activities include lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, and operating foot controls. Rare activities include sitting and crawling.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed outdoors with exposure to variable and extreme weather conditions, machinery with moving parts, and hazardous materials/chemicals. Personal protective equipment is required as necessary.
