Position Overview

The Human Resources Representative at Texas State University is responsible for providing a variety of HR services, particularly in the area of employee benefits. This role involves assisting employees and retirees with understanding and utilizing benefit plans, processing enrollment paperwork, and resolving insurance-related issues. The representative will also coordinate new employee orientations and participate in annual enrollment processes, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance in the utilization and understanding of benefit plans.
  • Serve as a resource for employee benefits information and processes.
  • Coordinate new employee orientation and follow up on required hiring paperwork.
  • Process new hire and annual enrollment paperwork.
  • Assist employees and retirees in resolving insurance-related benefits issues.
  • Review daily, weekly, and monthly reports to address errors.
  • Assist with resolving claims issues and participate in planning for the Annual Enrollment period.
  • Draft benefit communications and plan benefit fairs.

Required Qualifications

  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in customer service related to benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of IRS rules, optional retirement program regulations, as well as state and federal laws, and employment law.
  • Skill in interacting courteously with employees and providing training to others.
  • Ability to update and maintain databases and convey university policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications and analytical problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized experience with the administration of Employee Benefit plans, specifically Health & Welfare, Dental, Life, Retirement, and Spending Accounts.
  • Knowledge of Federal and Statutory laws including ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, EEO, ADA, ACA, and HIPAA.
