Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Experience operating and maintaining steam, chilled water, and condensate systems, including steam-powered equipment and pipe fitting.
  • Familiar with TCEQ regulatory requirements for water production and sampling procedures.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems, managing priorities, and resolving operational issues.
  • Skilled in using measuring tools, reading schematics, operating mechanical equipment, and maintaining electronic work logs.
  • Capable of working in strenuous conditions, training junior staff, and interacting effectively with others.
  • Must be able to obtain TCEQ Class “C” Water License within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working within a Public Water System.
  • Current TCEQ Class “C” Water Operator License

Job Description

The Steam & WW Ops Mechanic II is responsible for operating and maintaining all steam, condensate and potable water systems and associated equipment.

Job Duties

  • Install new chilled water, steam, and condensate piping systems and all associated equipment and repair existing systems and equipment.
  • Check University and Freeman Ranch water well.
  • Conduct maintenance on ground storage tank and elevated storage tank.
  • Collect water samples for bacteriological testing.
  • Repair pumps and motors.
  • Check chlorine residual and water softeners around campus.
  • Check steam equipment and hot water generator in cafeterias and dormitories.
  • Check for hardness in condensate water.
  • Take lead and copper water samples for testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Information to Applicants

The selected candidate will participate in a monthly on-call rotation outside standard working hours and may occasionally work extended hours to support special events, emergency responses, or critical projects. A TCEQ Class “C” Water Operator License must be obtained within one year of employment.
