Job Description
The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is an official university-level research center at Texas State University. The TxSSC is tasked in Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code and the Governor’s Homeland Security Strategic Plan with key school safety initiatives and mandates. The TxSSC serves as the clearinghouse for the dissemination of safety and security information through research, training, and technical assistance for K-12 schools and junior colleges throughout the state of Texas. As a result, Texas has become a national leader in school safety practices and is relied upon for assistance and guidance from jurisdictions throughout the nation.
The role of the FDA Tobacco Compliance Data Specialist is to assist in the overall administration, coordination, training, and monitoring of the FDA Tobacco Compliance Check Program in Texas. The Data Specialist creates and revises training materials, updates and maintains multiple databases with highly sensitive data to track program information and meet contractual requirements, prepares and processes program documents, and organizes correspondence to evaluate monthly program eligibility requirements for Contractors, who serve as FDA Inspectors for the program. The Data Specialist also validates completion of work and processes contractor invoices for payment.
Job Duties
- Monitor contract compliance such as deliverables, invoices, budget adjustments, and contract renewals
- Maintain highly confidential program records and equipment inventory
- Enter, verify, and audit data from multiple large databases to ensure data accuracy and integrity
- Compile, create, analyze, and report data on a frequent basis using databases and Excel worksheets with intermediate and advanced formulas and functions (e.g., VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas, filters)
- Upload, download, and cross import documents, spreadsheets, audio, video, and other current program information between internal and external sources
- Conduct monthly and quarterly program process audits to report to program management
- Identify and resolve data discrepancies or inconsistencies
- Ensure attention to detail, data accuracy, and integrity on all work platforms
- Assist with general administrative tasks related to data management and program administration
- Other duties as assigned
Additional Information to Applicants
- FDA Program continued employment is contingent upon passing a level 5 federal background check for program database access conducted by FDA.
- This position is funded via a federal contract. Continued employment is conditional on annual renewal of the contract.

- This position is based in San Marcos, TX. If selected for an interview, it will be conducted in person.
